Christmas dance
Gym was covered with wall flowers
Boys on one wall
Girls on another
They¡¯d been standing there for hours
He was hoping for the courage
To be the first one on that dance floor
She was waiting for him to ask her
Couldn¡¯t wait a minute more
So she walked up and grabbed his arm
In time for the next slow song
They danced alone
Each step was slightly off the rhythm
They danced alone
He sang to her a little out of tune
They danced alone
They carried on as if they couldn¡¯t notice
All eyes were on the center of the room
Because the world was small
And the two were one
Everytime they danced alone
Sealed their promise with a kiss
Ten years later on their wedding day
She had only one request
When she asked the band to play
She walked up and grabbed his arm
In time for that same slow song
They danced alone
Each step was slightly off the rhythm
They danced alone
He sang to her a little out of tune
They danced alone
They carried on as if they couldn¡¯t even notice
All eyes were on the center of the room
Because the world was small
And the two were one
Everytime they danced alone
They danced each night
The years rolled by
I remember a quiet room
Sat with grandpa as he tried to be strong
The nurse walked in and he just smiled
Was like he knew all along
And I never saw him cry
He just stood there and closed his eyes
He danced alone
Each step was slightly off the rhythm
He danced alone
He sang to her a little out of tune
He danced alone
He carried on as if he couldn¡¯t notice
All eyes were on the center of the room
Because the world was small
And the two were one
Everytime they danced alone
Yes the world was small
And the two were one
Everytime they danced alone
