Federal investigators questioning crewmembers of the chartered fishing boat that capsized in Oregon. The National Transportation Safety Board’s John Goglia says they’ve spoken with a deckhand who says the pilot tried to control the vessel through treacherous waters.

A Senate committee holds hearings this week on just what the US knew about weapons of mass destruction before launching the war in Iraq. Senator Pat Roberts of Kansas who chairs the intelligence committee says congress needs to get to the bottom of the question.

오늘은 상당히 느린 것처럼 들리네요. 6개월 가까이 받아쓰기를 하면서 방법이 참 다양하게 바뀌었는데, 요즘은 제가 맡은 부분의 기사를 반복해서 계속 듣습니다. 들으면서 그냥 워드프로그램에서 입력합니다. 그냥 들리는 대로….중간에 빼먹으면서 들리는 단어를 계속 입력하다 보면, 자세한 횟수는 모르겠지만 수십 차례 하다 보면 거의 문장이 완성됩니다. 예전엔 최대한 집중해서 내용을 문장 단위로 기억해서 한 번에 가능한 많은 내용을 입력하려 했는데 너무 힘들어서 요즘은 그냥 무한정 들으면서 들리는 대로 입력합니다. 이상한 방법인가요? 그냥 집중해서 듣기만 하면 대충 내용은 이해됐다 싶은데 막상 글로 쓰려면 잘 안 되더라구요. 궁금해 하시는 분들을 위해서, 그리고 혹시 좋은 의견 있는 분들의 생각도 듣고싶어서 몇 글자 적었습니다. ((참고로 지명이나 사람 이름 같은 고유명사는 스크립트에서 그대로 베낍니다.)) 다른 받아쓰기 멤버 분들은 어떤 식으로 하는지 전혀 아는 바 없습니다. ^^;;; 오늘 내용은 요즘 미국정가를 뜨겁게 달구고 있는 부시정권의 이라크 대량살상무기에 관한 정보조작 혹은 정보 부풀리기에 관한 의회의 반응에 관한 내용이네요. ((hold a hearing, 청문회를 열다)) ((launch a war, carry out a war, wage a war, 전쟁을 벌이다)) ((~s/b who chairs or heads 단체, ~어떤 단체의 의장, 대표를 맡고 있는 누구누구)) ((bottom line))은 자주 나오는 단어죠. 상황에 따라 적절하게 의미를 잡아내야 될 텐데, 여기서는 핵심내용, 최종결과 뭐 이런 의미로 보이네요. ((standpoint, 견지, 관점, 서있는 장소)) 여기서는 국가안보의 관점에서 봤을 때라는 의미가 아닐까요. ((appear on 방송프로그램, ~에 출연하다)) ((closed-door hearing, 비공개 청문회)) 전쟁의 정당성을 확보하기 위해 부시정권에서 정보 부풀리기 등 의혹을 불러일으키는 일들을 많이 했다고 미국 언론들이 요즘 무지하게 맹공을 퍼붓고 있습니다. 결과는 두고 봐야겠죠. Hope all is well.

Iraq’s former UN ambassador thinks it should have been Iraqis, not foreign invaders, who toppled Saddam Hussein. Mohammed Aldouri told the BBC that he thinks his countrymen are glad Saddam’s gone, but he says they are not glad that the US and British are there.

티비에서 유엔주재 이라크대사를 보면서 정권도 붕괴됐는데 저 사람은 이제 어디로 가나 궁금했는데, 어디론가 망명한다는 말을 들은 거 같기도 하고… 여하튼 사담정권을 몰아내는 주역을 이라크 국민이 맡았어야 했다고 말합니다. ((topple, 무너트리다)) 후세인이 사라진 건 기쁘지만, 그 자리에 미국과 영국 군인이 있다는 사실은 전혀 좋을 게 못되겠죠. Hope all is well.
